Adding to the atmosphere in The Carlton Trackside Marquee this year will be The Black Toyota Retreat, an oasis designed by award-winning garden artist Clint Kenny that promises to be the perfect spot to meet, mingle and soak up the racing atmosphere on Cup day.

Feel what it’s like to ‘own a horse for a day’

Want to feel your heart pound as ‘your’ horse thunders toward the finish line? Or cheer ‘your’ champion home as it rounds the last bend?  If you’ve never experienced a horse race from an owner’s perspective, this is your chance!

For just $10 a person (in addition to racecourse entry or ticket price) you can experience the thrill of a behind-the-scenes look at what it?s like to own a horse for a day*. Thanks to Raheen Stud.

Treat yourself, your friends and your guests to an insider’s look at country racing. The day will start with some late mail from a local bookie in the know and you’ll get some tips on reading the form guide. As Cup day progresses, you’ll be drawn further into the action; hearing the trainer and jockey’s ‘race plan’ before the race, seeing ‘your’ horse being groomed and prepared to run and having your photograph taken with the horse after its race! 

To help you prepare for the big day, information about ‘your’ horse will be sent the day before the Cup, to your nominated email address.

Hats, heels & fascinators...Fashions on the Field by CGU Insurance is the most glamorous event on Cup Day. Entrants will be competing for thousands of dollars worth of cash and prizes.

GET INTO THE RACING SPIRIT THE NIGHT BEFORE THE BIG DAY

The MyOptical Cup Calcutta, held the Friday night prior to the Cup (October 8) is the ideal warm up to a great day of thoroughbred racing and is the unofficial start of the Cup festivities.

Everybody is welcome to the Calcutta, held in the Members’ Enclosure at Allman Park. It’s a great way to soak up the pre-Cup action featuring national and international racing identity and guestspeaker Geoff Lane, an animated auction and a live phantom call of the Cup to spark the racing spirit. A cash bar will be operating on the night.

Make a weekend of it

If you’re heading to Warwick for the Cup, why not make a weekend of it? Spring is a great time to visit country Queensland and make the most of the local hospitality.

Relax after the Cup with a round of golf or by simply taking time out in the countryside.  Warwick, the centre of the scenic Darling Downs, is a vibrant rural community known for its sandstone architecture, famous homesteads and rose gardens as well as cosmopolitan cafes and boutiques.

You may even take the opportunity to explore the nearby wineries of Queensland’s premier wine region, the Granite Belt.
